Sample Rubric for Grading Video Production Students

The senior level of our Video Productions program is strictly a production class so students are working on different projects from the moment they walk in the door. This can be a grading nightmare, so I developed a portfolio sheet they are required to complete on a weekly basis.

Several years into teaching the production class, I was noticing all of the extra works students were devoting their time to such as work for clients, hype videos for sports, volunteering to be part of projects being produced by other students, helping teachers record lessons, etc. By creating a portfolio for them to fill out routinely during the grading period, I could chart their assigned work plus the “above and beyond” time that many of them were putting in simply because they love what they are doing.

Below is an example of the portfolio sheet my students access each week during the grading period that you might find helpful. They complete the different sections of the sheet, and I fill in the grades to chart their progress. You can download the PDF version of this sheet here.
