InfoComm Takeaway: HollyLand Lark 2 Max (and how to win one!)
June was one of the wildest months of my life… it really started in May. My son graduated high school the last week in May, I left 2 days later to go to Alabama for the first Alabama AV Teacher Bootcamp. I returned from that only to leave a day later to drive to the Georgia coast for a video shoot with the Georgia Department of Education and CTAERN (Career Technical Agricultural Education Resource Network). I was at the coast for less than 24 hours then had a 6 hour trip home to drop gear as I had to go to the other side of Atlanta to pick up equipment to go to the Georgia Camp T&I for AVTF Teachers. Two days there, then home for 4 days (it felt like a vacation). The following week was Infocomm in Orlando for a week then the following week was the Georgia Association of Career Technical Educators conference in Athens, GA and closing out the month was the 2025 SkillsUSA National Skills and Leadership Conference…. I share all of that because I was moving at such a pace that anything that would get me excited would have to really stand out… More like jump out at me.
The Hollyland Cosmo C2 is a wireless video transmitter system that outputs two separate feeds via SDI, HDMI, and NDI through one receiver.
In that time only two things did and both were at Infocomm and both from Hollyland. The first was the Cosmo C2 wireless video system. A 2:1 transmitter to receiver system isn’t unheard of but this one is different. Not only is each transmitter a discreet feed into the receiver but the receiver outputs HDMI, SDI, and NDI. That’s right two discreet NDI signals out of one box. All for $1,299. I’ll let that idea sit with you for a while… (while I wait to get my hands on a set)
The other thing that caught my attention was the Hollyland Lark Max 2. I feel like there have been more small wireless microphone systems to hit the market in the last 5 years than anything else. This one stands out for several reasons.
Sure the Hollyland Lark Max 2 is a wireless system with a charging case, a couple of end of the line uses (3.5 mm and USB-C), easy to use and monitor receiver… but the the Hollyland Lark Max 2 has much more.
The first thing that stands out when you see the photos and marketing are the wireless headphones. The Hollyland Lark Max 2 has a pair of bluetooth headphones so you can monitor your audio live. No longer are you bound to the receiver to monitor audio. You can be about 10 meters (33 ft) away from the receiver. Outside of not having to be bound to a headphone cable, you could set up a static camera as your main shot and move with a second camera and still monitor the audio from the static camera. This really impressed me. The headphones last 6 or so hours when listening so most of your events would be more than covered.
The wireless transmitters have great range. Hollyland claims the transmitters get over 1100 ft of distance (LOS) without any interference. The transmitters also use a frequency hopping technology in order to get the audio back to the receiver without disruptions.
The next biggest thing that caught my eye was the recording abilities. Obviously you can get a feed from the receivers that is a mixed feed (read as what you get it what you get…), but each transmitter has 8gbs of built in storage. This means you can have up to four wireless recorders for your shoot in addition to the mixed recording. You have a couple of recording options - 32-bit and 24-bit. Outside of the quality differences, there is a pretty dramatic difference in battery life between the two - 32 gets 10 hours and 24 garners 14 hours. Again, I think this will cover 99.99% of the shoots you would ever do. If you are recording for more than 14 hours, the wireless microphone battery life will be less of a concern for sure.
The Hollyland Lark Max 2 ships in several configurations:
Solo ($169), which includes everything you need for a solo shoot including the transmitter and receiver and needed charging and audio cables. There is no charging case with the solo set up.
Combo ($249) which features two transmitters, one receiver, the charging case, and the USB receiver.
Ultimate Combo ($279) includes everything from the combo package but adds the headphones and their case to the package.
Combo 4-Person Version ($319), includes everything above but doubles the wireless transmitters.
Hollyland continues to impress with advancements in tools but their price remains competitive in the market.
