Play Ball Day
For many in the south, August 1st is the first day of school for their students. No better time to play ball. Do a man on the street and encourage students and staff to do the traditional “Play ball” to start the school year.

National Coloring Book Day
There are many sites where you can create custom coloring pages. Create a custom coloring page, give it out to students and teachers, and later showcase their work on socials.

National Big Forehead Day
Break out the cellphone cameras and get the 0.5 zoom ready… have students submit their favorite 0.5 photos on your socials!

National Coast Guard Day
Work with a history teacher or local recruiter to talk about the founding, growth and current state/role of the coast guard.

Green Peppers Day
Work with your culinary department to do a showcase on how peppers are used in dishes and why people shouldn’t be afraid that all peppers are hot!

National Root Beer Float Day
Crack open a can of rootbeer and a scoop of vanilla icecream and get student reactions to trying this refreshing treat.

Beach Party Day
Your news show should be beach themed… Leis, straw hats, beach balls and more. If you leave near a beach, shoot your show on the beach.

International Cat Day
Work with a local adoption agency to feature a cat that is up for adoption.

Book Lover’s Day
The biggest book lover in your building is in your library/media center. Interview them about what’s happening in their space and get some book reviews.

National Spoil Your Dog Day
Every school has a teacher that is a dog person. Do a package on that teacher but focus on their dog. (It’s always a great idea to “humanize” teachers so take that opportunity any time you can)

Global Kinetic Sand Day
Kinetic Sand was all the rage several years ago. Doing something about kinetic sand with your students will really hit their nostalgic spot.

National Middle Child Day
The middle child is often the one that’s a little off the rails. Find the middle children in your school and do a challenge of some sort with them.

International Left-Handers Day
Lefties get no love. A fun package would be to show all the ways the world is geared toward right handed people.

National Financial Awareness Day
Students don’t know much about finances and how they can start working on their long term finances now. Bring in an engegetic financial planner or accountant to help inform and engage students on the best way to make long term wealth.

National Check The Chip Day
Work with the local ASPCA or Animal control to talk about the need for chipping pets and how chipping a pet can help in a variety of ways.

National Tell A Joke Day
There are a variety of ways to handle this one. Have teachers and admin tell jokes for the show. Get students to tell dad jokes.

National Nonprofit Day
Most schools or systems have some sort of education foundation - this may be a way to help show some love to those organizations.

National Bad Poetry Day
Work with your english department to have students write bad poetry… or discuss poetry that students think is bad.

National Bacon Lovers Day
Everyone loves bacon! Do a bacon eating contest or sample different types of bacon, etc.

Work with the local senior citizen center or another organization to find a couple of senior citizens who can share stories about the school, community, or other relevant subject.

Folklore Day
Every town has a storyteller of some sort, have them come in and tell something about the town that people may not know.

Let’s go fly a kite! Do a package showing students how hard it can be to fly a kite.

Pluto Demoted Day
Talk with a science or astronomy teacher about how and why Pluto was demote from planetary status.

National Secondhand Wardrobe Day
Thirfting is a trend your students know well. Ask your students to figure out who the best thrifter is and do a package about what they do and how.

Women in Tech are a big deal. Talk with a female student who is in a web design class.

The Duchess Who Wasn’t Day
Work with your history department to get information about the Duchess Who Wasn’t and present that to the school.

National Bow Tie Day
There are several things you can do with this one - unofficial spirit day where everyone wears a bowtie, If there is a teacher in the school who normally wears a bowtie, do a feature about them, do a segment where you teach students how to tie a bow tie.

Individual Rights Day
Work with an attorney or judge to discuss individual rights.

Frankenstein Day
Have a teacher or librarian/media specialist do a 60 second book report on Frankenstien or get crazy and talk with a genetics teacher/profession about ethics is bio design.

National Eat Outside Day
Let’s go out for lunch. Encourage students to eat outside during lunch; if it’s allowed by the school or organize an outside after school snack break.
Meet the Author, Tom White
Tom White is the Education and House of Worship Specialist at Amitrace. Tom's role is to help educators build better programs through better training, planning, and equipment. Before joining Amitrace, Tom was the Broadcast Engineer at Grady College of Journalism and Communication at the University of Georgia. Prior to that role, Tom taught at Morgan County High School and Rockdale Career Academy where he and his student produced thousands of live streams for sports, news, and community events. Tom’s program at the Rockdale Career Academy received the NFHS Network Program Of The Year in 2016 and his program at Morgan County High School received the New Program of the Year title in 2018. Tom has been a long time contributor to many publications and is the host of Teaching to The Test Pattern Podcast.
